Morristown Beautiful, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization. It consists of volunteers, supported by tax-deductible contributions, that are dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the quality of life in Morristown and its environment. Morristown Beautiful aims to complete these goals through beautification, education and litter abatement programs.

The goal of Morristown Beautiful is to Preserve, Enhance and Sustain the quality of life and environment. These pillars have made Morristown the green and welcoming community that has attracted people here for over 300 years. You can be a part of that ongoing legacy!

Our History

Incorporated on September 24, 1974, Morristown Beautiful was the brainchild of Glenn K. Coutts Sr., a native Morristonian and civic leader, to spruce up the town. As the new Morristown Rotary Club president in 1973, Coutts traveled to Lucerne, Switzerland for an international Rotary Club conference and was smitten by that town’s beauty. Returning to Morristown, he brought the mental images back with him. He then proposed that the Morristown Rotary initiate a beautification campaign here. Soon, the town’s government, schools, business community, and other organizations signed on to the plan. It became a town-wide project.

Not one to come up with an idea and leave all the work to others, Coutts served as Morristown Beautiful president for over 40 years, overseeing its dedicated work. At the same time, Coutts was a member and served as president of the privately-held Morristown Green’s 13-member board of trustees, maintaining the 2½-acre Green for the public’s use and spearheading restorations of the Green in 1979 and 2007.

Over the years, Morristown Beautiful has contributed to multiple municipality projects. These projects include: the planting of trees and the placement of trash receptacles along downtown sidewalks and the addition of barrel planters of brightly colored greenery and flowers to the streetscape. Educational programs are presented at schools and recycling, clean-up and beautification days became annual community-wide events.
