MORRISTOWN, NJ – Morristown area travelers with upcoming Spirit Airlines flights may be impacted after the airline announced it has cancelled all flights effective immediately.
Spirit Aviation Holdings, Inc., the parent company of Spirit Airlines, made the announcement May 2, citing financial challenges following efforts to restructure the business. The company pointed to rising fuel costs and broader economic pressures as key factors.
“For more than 30 years, Spirit Airlines has played a pioneering role in making travel more accessible and bringing people together while driving affordability across the industry,” said Spirit President and CEO Dave Davis. “However, the sudden and sustained rise in fuel prices in recent weeks ultimately has left us with no alternative but to pursue an orderly wind-down of the Company.”
In a message posted on its website, the airline stated: “All Spirit flights are cancelled. Please refer to the links and FAQ below for more information about your booking and next steps. Thank you for choosing Spirit — we are grateful to all our Guests who flew with us over the past 34 years.”
Spirit said customers who purchased tickets directly using a credit or debit card will automatically receive refunds to their original form of payment. Travelers who booked through a travel agent are advised to contact the agent directly. Compensation for bookings made with vouchers, credits or Free Spirit points will be determined through the bankruptcy process.
