Morristown, NJ – – Friends of Jockey Hollow (FOJH) has launched its public portion of the $2.5mm Campaign for America 250, unveiling a new short video that highlights the park’s critical role in the American Revolution and invites the community to support its preservation. The campaign aims to raise $750,000 to enhance the visitor experience at Jockey Hollow in time for the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026.
“The most important takeaway from any visit to Jockey Hollow is that this is a story of American perseverance—a story still unknown to many Americans,” said Leslie T. Bensley, Executive Director of FOJH. The video tells the story of Jockey Hollow, where more than 10,000 Continental Army soldiers endured the brutal winter of 1779–1780—longer and colder than Valley Forge. It underscores the park’s historical significance and the urgent need for investment to protect its legacy for future generations.
Funds raised will support three key initiatives:
- Creation of the Pennsylvania Line Mutiny Trail – the first new trail in 80+ years, interpreting a long-overlooked story of soldiers’ protest and perseverance with educational signage and interpretation.
- Legacy Improvement Fund – addressing critical infrastructure needs at the 50-year-old Jockey Hollow Visitors Center and supporting new educational enhancements.
- Increased Visitation for America 250 – marketing and outreach to welcome families, groups, and individuals throughout 2026, beginning with an expanded Spring Encampment Weekend (April 18–19, 2026).
Since its founding in 2021, FOJH has raised and reinvested $1.75 million, raised during the private phase, into critical park improvements, including trail restoration, replacement of the historic Wick Garden fence, and the renovation of New York Brigade Area Comfort Station. With continued community support, FOJH seeks to reach its $2.5 million goal, ensuring Jockey Hollow remains a premier destination for history, education, and reflection during America 250.
