Independence Day Events to Kick Off 4th of July This Week

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Fireworks, parades, and historical re-enactments will take place across Morris County over the next few weeks for the 4th of July, and America declaring itself an independent nation almost 250 years ago.

The patriotic pyrotechnics begin in the last week of June, with fireworks over Lake Hopatcong and Mountain Lake, at the annual Chester Fireman’s Carnival, and in Montville and Morris Plains. We rounded up some local parades, festivals, community picnics, and other events for Independence Day, and there’s even a traditional reading of the Declaration of Independence in Morristown on July 4.

Chatham Parade and 4th of July Fireworks

• Date/time – Thursday, July 4. Parade begins at 10:30 am. Musical entertainment begins at 7 pm. Fireworks begin at dusk.
• Location – Chatham Middle School, Chatham NJ

Chester Fireman’s Carnival Fireworks

• Date/time – Fireworks are Friday, June 28 at 10 PM (festivities begin Tuesday, June 25)
• Location – Chubb Park, Chester, NJ

Denville Fireworks Celebration

• Date/time – Saturday, July 13 beginning at 7 pm. Fireworks at 9:30 pm (New Date)
• Location – Gardner Field, Denville, NJ

Dover July 4 Celebration and Fireworks

• Date/time – Wednesday, July 3 beginning at 6 pm. Fireworks later in the evening
• Location – Hamilton Field, Dover, NJ

Florham Park Parade, Picnic, and Fireworks

• Date/time – Thursday, July 4. Parade begins at 9:30 am. Picnic is from 10:30 am to 3 pm, and social garden from 12:00 pm to 3 pm. Fireworks begin at 9pm.
• Location – Parade begins Ridgedale Ave & Brooklake Road. Picnic and social garden are on the Borough Hall Lawn. Fireworks are on Emmett Field.

Hanover Township Patriotic Celebration and Fireworks

• Date/time – Monday, July 1 beginning at 6 pm. Fireworks begin at 9:15 pm.
• Location – Hanover Township Municipal Complex

Lake Hopatcong Fireworks Show

• Date/time – Friday, June 28 at 9:30 pm
• Location – Off Bertrands Island, Mt. Arlington, NJ

Brookside July 4 Parade in Mendham

• Date/time – Thursday, July 4 beginning at 9 am
• Location – East Main Street, Mendham, NJ

Mendham Township Fireworks Celebration

• Date/time – Monday, July 1. Music begins at 6:45 pm. Fireworks begin at dusk.
• Location – Mosle Field, Mendham, NJ

Montville Township 4th of July Fireworks

• Date/time – Fireworks are Friday, June 28 at 9:30 pm. Three-day festival begins Wednesday, June 26.
• Location – Montville Township High School, Montville, NJ

Morristown Declaration of Independence Reading

• Date/time – Thursday, July 4 beginning at 12 pm
• Location – Morristown National Historical Park, Morristown, NJ

Morris Plains Family Day and Fireworks

• Date/time – Saturday, June 29. Family Day begins at 5 pm. Fireworks begin at 9:30 pm.

Fireworks Over Mountain Lake

• Date/time – Tuesday, July 2 at 9 pm

Randolph Freedom Festival and Fireworks

• Date/time – Fireworks are Saturday, July 13 around 9:45 pm. Three-day festival begins Thursday, July 11.
