We here at Santosha Yoga welcome you to our studio and our community where we teach yoga for every body.
You don’t have to be uber-flexible or able to tie yourself in a pretzel to do yoga. In fact, it is a myth that yoga is only about stretching. Among its many health benefits, yoga builds strength and stamina as well as flexibility.
At Santosha Yoga, we teach the Iyengar method, which uses everyday household objects (such as a chair or a windowsill) to make yoga postures accessible to bodies of all sorts and different sizes. With these “props,” stiff people will be able to come into classic postures without causing strain while more flexible people will learn sensitivity and how to maintain the integrity of joints. Our goal is never to achieve some impossible contortion, but rather to find a balance and steadiness in the postures that ultimately translates into our daily lives.
All our teachers have had years of training in the Iyengar method and have gone through a rigorous assessment process to become Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers (CIYTs). We are proud to say our studio has the largest group of CIYTs in the State of New Jersey. They are warm, compassionate, and bring decades of experience to their teaching.
We offer classes to accommodate all levels of experience, fitness, and flexibility. So come as you are. Meet our wonderful community of dedicated yogis. And enjoy the health-giving benefits of yoga.
A Tribute
With immense gratitude and love, we honor our late teacher Theresa Rowland. Theresa founded our community in 1989 and, from that point onwards, dedicated her life to teaching and disseminating Iyengar Yoga. With her keen insight, passion, and knowledge, she guided more than 30 aspiring yoga teachers to pass the rigorous exam required by the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States to become certified Iyengar yoga teachers. Every instructor at Santosha Yoga Studio trained under Theresa. She was an inspiration and mentor to us all. We still hear her voice in our heads. We will always hold her strong in our hearts.
