MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — The beloved coming-of-age film Stand By Me is returning to theaters for its 40th anniversary, with local screenings now confirmed.
While the anniversary release is not playing at theaters in Morristown, fans can catch the classic at AMC East Hanover 12, Rockaway, Wayne, Clifton, and the Garden State Plaza where limited showtimes are scheduled beginning March 27 and continuing for a limited run.
The 1986 film, directed by Rob Reiner and based on Stephen King’s novella The Body, remains one of the most iconic stories of friendship and adolescence. The re-release marks 40 years since the film first premiered, offering longtime fans and new audiences the chance to experience it on the big screen once again.
The anniversary screenings are part of a limited theatrical engagement, with many theaters across the country showing the film for just a few days.
The return of Stand By Me comes as part of a broader trend of anniversary screenings bringing classic films back to theaters, giving audiences a chance to revisit — or discover — iconic movies as they were meant to be seen.
