The logistics industry is vital to the economic strength of New Jersey. Despite its necessity, the industry frequently faces criticism and blame. Initial conversations among NAIOP New Jersey, David Greek of Greek Real Estate Partners, and leading members of the state’s logistics industry resulted in a new approach to defending and recognizing the logistics industry’s contributions – Circulate NJ.
This wide-ranging coalition seeks to inform and educate the public on the numerous benefits of the logistics industry through hard data and specific examples. The Circulate NJ’s actively expanding list of 40+ member organizations includes representation from all sectors of the logistics industry—which encompasses the Transportation, Logistics and Distribution (TLD) industries that fuel our supply chain—including port workers, warehouses, retail developers, trucking companies, and more. Data from the New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development shows the numerous benefits the TLD industry provides New Jersey, including:
- Supporting more than 400,000 jobs
- Employing 12% of the state’s private work force and providing 12.7% of New Jersey private sector wages
- Providing an average $75,000 annual industry salary
- Contributing $62.5 billion, or 10%, to New Jersey’s overall GDP
Circulate NJ’s members have also been a leader in the environmental cleanup of brownfield sites. These hazardous locations often cost millions to rehabilitate and make usable for the public. Circulate NJ’s members have taken the initiative to clean up and reuse these sites across New Jersey, from Jersey City to Lower Alloways Creek and points in between.
