DiningHistoryHistoric Morristown Pub Set To Reopen After Months Of Renovations

Morristown’s Dublin Pub, a neighborhood spot renowned for its live music and Irish pub fare, is making progress with its renovations.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — After months of remodeling, a decade’s old Irish pub is getting a new life in the heart of Morristown.

Dublin Pub, which was first opened to the Morristown community in 1973 in what was once the one-room community cocktail lounge, has announced on social media that its months-long renovations are nearing completion.

Located at 4 Pine Street, the family-owned Dublin Pub has been a cornerstone of Morristown for the past 50 years, bringing a touch of Ireland to the neighborhood.

The restaurant was founded by Jim Mongey, who immigrated from County Meath, Ireland, to the United States in 1959. Over the years, Mongey also established Molly Malone’s in Whippany and, along with his brother Pat, opened Trinity Pub and The Harp n Bard.

Mongey, a founding member and trustee of the Morristown Partnership and a member of the Morris County St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee who was honored as Grand Marshal in 1996, passed away in 2022. Restaurant officials unveiled the renovation plan late last year, prompting the pub’s closure in December for what was initially expected to be a five-month makeover. Now, eight months later, the pub is showing notable progress in its renovation efforts.

Although the completed interior details of the pub are still under wraps, the exterior has already been refreshed with a new coat of paint. The company has also introduced its updated branding across social media, showcasing the pub’s new look. Along with the new remodel, the pub has announced an upcoming partnership with another Morristown favorite, Stirling Tavern. According to the update, Stirling Tavern will bring its “culinary and management expertise” to the pub.

“This partnership allows us to continue honoring our family’s legacy while introducing fresh, creative takes on Irish cuisine, along with an enhanced craft beer and cocktail menu,” the Mongey family said on social media.

An official opening date has not yet been announced, but the revamped Morristown establishment is expected to open in the next couple of months. Officials have indicated that an update on the opening date will be available “soon.”

“Our team is hard at work bringing new life to your favorite Irish pub. From new interiors to updated exteriors, every detail is getting a fresh, modern twist while keeping the charm and warmth you love,” the company shared on social media.
