MORRISTOWN, NJ — A beautiful summer weekend is on deck following a rainy week, and there’s plenty of fun to be had in Morris County.
Friday, Aug. 9:
- The Famished Frog is hosting a watch party for the Morristown Area Little League from 6 to 10 p.m. as they take on the Metro Region championship final Friday at 7 p.m.
- The Folk Project is hosting its monthly Open Stage at the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $7.
- The gypsy jazz band Pyrenesia is performing at 10 Kings Rd. at 6 p.m. This event is presented by the Madison Community Arts Center and is free for the public. The performance has been moved indoors and seating will be provided.
- The Madison Community Arts Center also presents David Hoffman’s Cafe Theatre: Eight Short Comedies with Coffee and Cake at 8 p.m. at 10 Kings Rd. Tickets are $16.75. There will be encore shows on Saturday and Sunday.
- The Longo Planetarium at the County College of Morris is presenting two shows. One Sky, a children’s show, will begin at 7:30 p.m. and a new show, Big Astronomy, will be introduced to the public for the first time at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person per show.
- Comic Jim Breuer is performing at the Mayo Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $39 to $69.
Saturday, Aug. 10:
- Coffee with a Cop will happen from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Smartworld Coffee, at 74 South St., Morristown.
- The Morris Plains Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 771 Speedwell Ave. is happening every Saturday until Oct. 12
- Guided tour of Jones Woods: at 10 a.m., the Morris Township Transportation Advisory Committee will continue its series of free tours. It starts at the gated gravel road entrance to Jones Woods off Hillcrest Avenue, between E. Lake Boulevard and Dorothy Drive. The walk will be about two miles and take up to two and a half hours. Attendees are advised to bring appropriate clothing, shoes, and water. Rain date: Aug. 11. Registration can be found here.
- The Longo Planetarium at the County College of Morris is presenting three shows. One Sky, a children’s show, will begin at 2 p.m. and a new show, Big Astronomy, will be at 3:30 p.m. At 5 p.m. there will be a tour of the night sky with Starlit Nights. Tickets are $10 per person per show.
- The Morris Museum continues Season Five of its Jazz on the Back Deck outdoor concert series at 7:30 pm. The Laura Anglade Quartet will be performing. Tickets range from $28 to $58.
- The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey presents a Cabaret, featuring selections from the Great American Songbook, at Grace Church in Madison at 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $25.
Sunday, Aug. 11:
- The Morristown Farmers Market will be every Sunday through Nov. 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. behind the Morristown Post Office.
