CommunityUpdate: Morris Street in Morristown Closed Starting March 11

Beginning Monday, March 11, Morris Street in Morristown will be partially closed from 7 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday for the installation of 475 feet of new sanitary sewer main between Ridgedale Avenue and Ford Avenue.

Work was originally scheduled to begin on Feb. 29.

Work is expected to last for approximately five months. Detours will be in place and motorists are advised to plan alternate routes as significant traffic delays are anticipated.

During the construction period, eastbound traffic (heading out of Morristown) on Morris Street between Ridgedale Avenue and Ford Avenue will be reduced to one lane. All westbound traffic on Morris Street in the specified area will be suspended for the duration of the project. The following route adjustments will be in effect:

Phase 1 Detour (for the first two months)

  • Traffic on Ford Avenue and Taft Lane intending to travel westbound on Morris Street will be detoured to head eastbound on Morris Street. Vehicles will turn left onto Lafayette Avenue, followed by a left turn onto Ridgedale Avenue, leading back to Morris Street.

Phase 2 Detour

  • Taft Lane will maintain the detour as defined in Phase 1. Traffic on Hill Street and Leona Drive will be redirected to make a right turn onto Ford Avenue. Vehicles will then turn right onto Franklin Street, followed by a right turn onto Elm Street, ultimately leading to Morris Street.

The work is being completed by Colonelli Brothers Construction Company under a contract with the Town of Morristown. For any questions or concerns, please contact the Town of Morristown Division of Engineering at 973-292-6670.
